A spring journey through the U.S. state of Oregon, from the Pacific coast to the snow-capped peaks of the Cascade Range. From Crater Lake to the great Columbia River. Towering volcanoes, picturesque waterfalls, deep forests, mirror-like lakes, and excellent beer. Wherever you go in Oregon, you will encounter remarkable places. Along the coast, the waves of the Pacific Ocean have carved dramatic cliffs and scenic beaches.
The state’s northern border is formed by the magnificent Columbia River Gorge. Dominating the horizon is Oregon’s highest mountain—the monumental stratovolcano Mount Hood, with its many glaciers and the unique Timberline Lodge. I traveled south through the Cascade Range into the fantastic wilderness of lakes and forests in the area of the Three Sisters volcanoes, and then on to the deepest lake in the United States—Crater Lake.
